CHALLENGES
The largest challenge was to deliver and pick up the materials as there were a large number of materials required to build this hoarding. We needed to have semi trailers deliver the materials and fork them across the forecourt of the Opera House into position and do so without impacting the general public as this is such a busy area for pedestrians.
OUTCOME AND IMPACT
The hoarding was built to the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House as a compound for the construction materials required for a major internal renovation project. The hoarding was needed to be designed as a wind rated hoarding to withstand the extreme prevailing weather conditions on the fore shore of Sydney Harbour for a period of eighteen months. The visual aspect of this hoarding was impacting on the iconic building and large number of people visiting the location so the aim was to attempt minimise the visual impact by painting the hoarding the same colours as the building its self in an attempt to blend in with the surroundings.
TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATIONS
The hoarding was a Titan free standing structurally engineered system designed to take windloads of 45m/s or equivalent of 200 KPH.
